Work Streams
While the G20 is typically referred to as a summit between world leaders, much of what is said and done at the summit is the product of the work carried out at earlier meetings throughout the year.
Argentina will preside over the G20 for one year from December 2017 to December 2018, during which the country will host meetings at various government levels. These meetings are roughly divided into two tracks: the Finance Track, organized by the Argentine Ministry of the Treasury and Central Bank; and the Sherpa Track, coordinated by the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers and the relevant ministries from each topic area.
The G20 meetings are attended by one or more of the following, depending on the designated level of the meeting:
- Ministers from different areas
- Sherpas, the designated emissaries of the G20 members
- Deputies, officials at the vice-ministerial level
- Officials at the technical level who attend specific working groups
- The topics of the minister-level meetings and working groups follow the work streams listed below
