The G20 agreed on the creation of the Health Working Group (HWG) in China in 2016, and the group came into being under the German presidency the following year, with Argentina as co-chair.

Over the course of 2018, the Health Working Group met on 5–6 March, 17–18 May and 3 October. The Health Ministerial Meeting was held on 4 October and set out a joint work plan and global objectives.

The Health Working Group is an excellent opportunity to continue to address global health policies at the G20 level. It will enable Argentina to bring perspectives to the table from Latin America and the Caribbean, and add a developing country dimension to the discussions.

The issues to be discussed under the Argentine presidency are as follows:

- Antimicrobial resistance

- Malnutrition focused on childhood overweight and obesity

- Health systems strengthening

- Responsiveness of health systems to disasters, catastrophes and pandemics
